Isatou Jawara, Managing Director of Agib Bank and the President of the Gambia Bankers Association, has made history as the first Gambian ever to hold a vice presidential role within the West African Bankers Association (WABA), following her unanimous election as Vice President 2 of the sub-regional body.
The election took place at WABA's 79th Executive Council Meeting and 43rd General Assembly, held in Monrovia, Liberia — a gathering that drew senior banking figures from across West Africa.
Stakeholders say the appointment signals the rising influence of Gambian professionals on the regional stage.
Jawara's appointment is widely regarded as recognition of her leadership and expertise in driving banking standards across the region. Under her tenure at Agib Bank, the institution has expanded its role in supporting economic growth and financial inclusion in The Gambia.
